Native Woodland Trust

The Native Woodland Trust is dedicated to the preservation of Ireland’s remaining ancient woodlands and to the restoration of Ireland’s original climax ecosystem, through the re-creation of woodlands, using only native seed. They manage eleven woodland sites across Ireland with three in county Wicklow.

Our volunteers have helped with tree planting on two of these sites: Blessington and Laragh. We have taken a special interest in the Laragh site where deer and vegetation management pose significant challenges to woodland restoration. Our volunteers have visited monthly to plant trees, erect deer guards, cut back the competing grass and gorse, lay compost and mulch and check the deer fence.
