Tree support at Castleruddery Organic Farm

Working with farmers is so important for providing habitat to local wildlife. So we were delighted to take the ReWild Wicklow crew to Castleruddery Organic Farm near Donard yesterday to help their young native trees throughout the farm.

Hilda and Dominic turned their farm organic all the way back in 1989! Making them one of the oldest organic farms in the country. As well as amazing organic farm produce available directly from their shop, the benefits for biodiversity were apparent everywhere!

We brought 25 volunteers to trample grass around the hundreds of native trees they planted two years ago to form a new hedgerow and small woodland. We also got to see a new pond they had dug on the farm and the wildlife that had brought.

Keeping a farm organic and chemical free for the sake of the environment is tough work but benefits all of us and the next generation! We were delighted to help in any small way we could.
