Scots pine planting begins in Glendalough

On Friday 30th December a big team of 35 volunteers helped the NPWS rangers plant 500 Scots pine on two sites in Glendalough.

These Scots pine were all purchased by us from funds raised from tree gift certificates before Christmas and a native tree grant from Wicklow County Council.

The cones of the Scots pine is a favourite food of the red squirrel and planting them in the park is helping this species recover. Which in turn helps its main predator the pine marten.

We have hundreds more trees to plant this winter and early spring so why not make your new year's resolution to help nature recover in 2023? Join our volunteer list at rewildwicklow.ie

Happy New Year! Let's make it a better one for the beautiful Wicklow wildlife.
