New ReWild Wicklow HQ and tree nursery

Newtownmountkennedy has a new headquarters - that of ReWild Wicklow!

Over the weekend we setup our base at Jacksmill Forest Gardens/Hub 13, down next to Abwood. This is already a great local project that combines community allotments with native hedgerows and fruit trees to create a sanctuary for local people and wildlife.

Now we've established a very special community tree nursery to go with it. We've collected acorns and other tree seed from all around Wicklow over the last few weeks, including from within the National Park and nature reserves like Clara Vale and Deputy’s Pass in partnership with NPWS.

Thank you to the over 30 volunteers that came out on Saturday to help us build the first rows of raised beds and sow over 2,000 acorns! These trees will be cared for here in Newtown for a few years before going back out into the National Park to help reforest the mountains.

If you have a few spare hours and want to help out at the nursery at any stage, join our volunteer list here.
